Jobs & Volunteering at Emery Walker’s House
We’re always looking for people to join our friendly team.
VACANCY! Chair of the Emery Walker Trust
The Emery Walker Trust owns and opens to the public Emery Walker’s House at 7 Hammersmith Terrace, London, which contains some of the most authentic and best-preserved Arts & Crafts interiors in the United Kingdom. The trustees are inviting applications for the position of Chair to replace Michael Hall FSA, who will step down at the end of 2019.
The role principally involves:
o Strategic leadership of a small historic-house museum, its staff and volunteers;
o Chairing meetings of trustees, of which there are five a year, and other meetings on occasion;
o Acting with others as the public face of the Emery Walker Trust, in particular for its fund-raising initiatives.
The successful candidate will have a reputation for expertise in some aspect of the Arts & Crafts movement. Experience in managing staff and volunteers and active involvement at trustee level (or equivalent) within the past five years in a relevant organisation in the arts or museums sector are essential. Knowledge of the charity sector and its governance are important, and fundraising and financial skills will be very helpful.
The post is unpaid (expenses are reimbursed), and involves on average up to three days work a month in addition to attendance at meetings. The post, which requires reasonable access to London, might attract someone from senior management in the public, private or voluntary sectors.
Candidates should submit a letter by email to explaining why they are qualified for the post together with a curriculum vitae and the names of two referees. Trustees are appointed for a term of four years with an option to renew for a further four years. For further information about the Emery Walker Trust, go to .
There are a range of roles to suit everyone; from the Arts & Crafts lover with a specialist interest in textiles or typography, to someone who wants to learn more about their local area and has some spare time.
